It was a quiet afternoon in the kitchen when Dad sliced open a fresh cucumber from the garden. The cool, crisp scent filled the room—refreshing enough to make anyone hungry. But no one reacted faster than little monkey Cubis. The moment he heard the crunch of that first slice, Cubis popped his head around the doorway like a curious cartoon character.
His eyes locked onto the cucumber.
Dad glanced over and smirked. “Cubis, you want some?” he teased, waving a slice just slightly out of reach.
Cubis didn’t hesitate. He scampered forward with tiny excited hops, his tail swishing behind him. He stretched his little hands toward the green treat, letting out a soft chirp that clearly meant, “Yes! Yes! Give me now!”
Dad pretended not to understand. “Hmm… not sure… are you really sure you want this cucumber?” he asked dramatically, raising it high.
Cubis instantly climbed up Dad’s leg, then his shirt, until he was perched on Dad’s arm like a determined little parrot. His eyes were wide and sparkling, and he gently tapped Dad’s cheek as if negotiating for his prize.
Finally, Dad surrendered. “Alright, alright! Here you go, little guy.”
Cubis grabbed the slice with both hands and took the tiniest, most dramatic nibble imaginable. His face lit up like he had discovered the world’s most magical food. He squeaked with pure happiness before settling down on Dad’s lap to enjoy his victory snack.
But Cubis wasn’t done.
When Dad sliced another piece, Cubis paused mid-chew. He stared. He wanted that one too. In a flash, he hopped closer, gently pushing Dad’s hand toward himself with his tiny palm. Dad burst into laughter.
“You again? You already have one!”
Cubis held up his half-eaten slice as if saying, “This one’s almost gone. I need backup!”
By the end of the afternoon, Dad didn’t stand a chance. Cubis had munched through several slices, each bite cuter than the last.
And as he lay on Dad’s chest afterward, belly full and eyes dreamy, one thing was clear:
when it comes to Dad’s cucumbers, Cubis truly can’t resist! 😍
