Mom couldn’t help laughing at Diem’s crying expression
It was a typical evening in the household, and Diem had just returned from a long day at school. Her mom, always quick to notice how her daughter was feeling, greeted her with a warm smile. But something was different that day. Diem’s face, usually full of energy and excitement, was crumpled with frustration and tears.
“What happened, sweetie?” her mom asked, her voice full of concern as she rushed to Diem’s side.
Diem sniffled, wiping her eyes dramatically. “I couldn’t find my homework, Mom! I looked everywhere and I’m going to get in so much trouble!”
Her mom paused for a moment, trying to hide the grin that was slowly forming on her face. Diem’s expression was so over-the-top, with her big round eyes and furrowed brow, that it almost looked comical. Despite Diem’s obvious distress, her mom found herself chuckling softly.
“Sweetheart, I understand you’re upset, but look at your face,” her mom said, still trying to suppress her laughter. Diem blinked at her, her lip quivering in the most dramatic way, which only made her mom laugh even more.
“I’m serious, Mom!” Diem cried, wiping away a fresh tear that had escaped down her cheek. “I’m going to be grounded!”
Seeing her daughter so upset was hard for her mom, but Diem’s exaggerated, pouty expression was impossible to resist. She gave Diem a gentle hug, laughing softly at her daughter’s dramatic flair.
“Okay, okay,” her mom said, wiping away the tears from Diem’s cheeks with a warm hand. “Let’s look for the homework together. I’m sure we’ll find it. But I have to say, your crying face could win an award. I don’t know whether to comfort you or laugh!”
Diem looked up at her mom, surprised, and then, despite her frustration, she couldn’t help but chuckle. Her mom’s laughter was infectious, and soon they were both laughing together, forgetting all about the missing homework for the moment.
